Program Overview

Program Description:
Forget sun, sea and sand this summer - think filmmaking, friends and fun! For an unforgettable two weeks in August 2014, Young Film Academy will be turning a beautiful boarding school in the English countryside (one hour from London) into a state-of-the-art film studio for young filmmakers ages 10-13, 14-18. Yep, that’s 2 whole weeks of non-stop filmmaking fun dedicated to living, eating, sleeping and breathing movies! Students will meet like-minded young filmmakers who are as crazy about movies as they are, and will fully immerse themselves in the art and magic of movie making.

Students who apply for YFA Summer Camp will have the opportunity to run their own film sets, learning from professional YFA filmmakers in all aspects of filmmaking, from story development, shooting and production, right through to the all-important editing and post-production in iMovie and Final Cut Pro. Students will work in teams to make showcase films which can be used to kick-start further filmmaking or add to their CV/portfolio for careers development. Students will have a chance to try different roles behind and in front of camera, mastering intermediate and advanced filmmaking techniques. Students will have access to professional grip equipment including jib arm, sliders, dolly and tracks and a fully lit green screen studio, as well as databases of Hollywood post-production sound and visual FX. Careers development advice surgeries will be available, offering practical next steps to aspiring young filmmakers looking to break in to the world of film and TV. Summer Camp students will work towards an Arts Award qualification, documenting their journey into filmmaking with a blog, which can be shared with friends and family to see the amazing things they’re up to! YFA Summer Camp will be challenging and demands full commitment from students, often under time pressure. But there’ll be plenty of time to relax too - making new friends, learning new skills and creating unforgettable memories.
