Program Overview

Program Description:
Windells Academy is a fully accredited college preparatory program for today’s most driven and talented student athletes. Unlike other high schools, Windells Academy caters to students who are as focused on year-round training as they are on academics. Credits accrued through Windells Academy are transferable in or out of any school, national or international. Windells Academy students receive personalized coaching and schooling. Our location offers students access to natural snow 12 months a year. The Academy sits on the world renown, 53-acre Windells private campus. Through unique travel programs scheduled each semester, students experience the best terrain in ski areas such as Park City, Utah, Summit County, Colorado, Lake Tahoe, California, and Whistler, British Columbia. Windells Academy assists students in reaching the most elite level of athleticism and higher education.

Academic success takes precedence at Windells Academy. Teachers and coaches are thrilled to see students succeed in competitions and advance as athletes, but students are expected to be academically sound before they participate in training and extracurricular activities. Windells Academy maintains a curriculum set by Keystone National High School in conjunction to the largest online schooling provider, K12. Keystone is accredited regionally and nationally by the Northwest Association of Accredited Schools, Comission on Secondary Schools of the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools and the National Collegiate Athletic Association. The Windells Academy philosophy is that students will perform how they are expected to perform. Given proper tools and motivation, student athletes are capable of much more than even they realize. Windells Academy students are expected to maintain a minimum grade point average of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale, however, most students maintain a GPA well above that mark. Academy graduates are adequately prepared for higher level education.

A variety of global and regional companies stem from the Northwest, and Portland in particular. Oregon has become the unofficial capital of the action sports world. Understanding the “behind-the-scenes” components of the snow sports industry is an important part to becoming a well-rounded athlete. The following list highlights just a handful of the companies Windells Academy students visit during the school year Bonfire Snowboarding Nike 6.0 Line Ride Atmosphere Dakine Grenade Mervin Manufacturing Surface It is true that the majority of aspiring snowboard, ski and skateboard athletes will find it difficult to make a successful career out of their sport through competition, but there is a thriving industry that revolves around action sports. Windells Academy offers students the opportunity to see behind the scenes of how companies operate through tours, meetings with the decision makers and experiencing first hand how product is designed and manufactured. This experience gives students invaluable insight to see what it takes to run a successful business. Windells Academy students are presented with these unique opportunities as a result of the strong position Windells Camp holds in the action sports industry. We look forward to the coming years as students graduate and move on to working with many of these companies or even starting their own business.
