Program Description:

The Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at William James College is offered both on-campus and online. The Master’s in Counseling prepares individuals to function as professional mental health counselors. It is an excellent choice for those interested in working in such
settings as hospitals, mental health agencies, residential treatment centers, substance use programs, colleges, government agencies, elder care facilities, and faith communities. The program is 2-years full-time and 3-years part time. On-campus students are eligible to choose an optional area of emphasis in Forensic and Correctional Counseling, Couples and Family Therapy (MFT), Substance Use and Addictions or Health and Behavioral Medicine.

We attract a diverse range of students including recent college graduates and late-in life career
changers. All are welcome. Our faculty provides unmatched mentoring, advising and support to our students. As part of the curriculum, students are required to complete a hands-on practicum and internship. William James College has a dedicated full time Associate Director of Field Education who walks you through the process, from resume and cover letter preparation to selection of sites for application, to interview process, to ensuring that your experience meets Massachusetts state regulations for LMHC requirements.

All graduates will have fulfilled all the educational and pre-master's field experience requirements to qualify for license as a mental health counselor (LMHC) in Massachusetts. Couples and Family Therapy (MFT) graduates meet the requirements to be licensed as a Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT).
