Classes
Our teaching replicates the Oxbridge undergraduate system in which all teaching is conducted in small group seminars and one on one tutorials. Students can choose two subjects from a wide range of both science and humanities and can have over 25 hours of expert teaching in subject specific lessons, challenging courses designed to introduce students to undergraduate content, and more.
Subjects
Our courses go beyond the school curriculum and allow the students to explore their subjects in greater depth. Students benefit from a level of individual attention that is rarely available in most schools.
The opportunity to expand upon what has been covered in a school syllabus gives students the best possible chance to attain a place at a competitive university. The confidence they develop to express and defend arguments helps Oxford Summer College students stand out at interview.
Activities
Every afternoon outside of study time, students participate in a range of activities in and around Oxford ranging from museum visits, to scavenger hunts and traditional British games like croquet and rounders.
Whilst Oxford is famous for its academic prestige, it's also a dynamic and quintessentially British city. At Oxford Summer College students have the advantage of being close to the famous Ashmolean Museum, Oxford University Museum of Natural History, and the historic Bodleian Library. Students explore the city in their free time, whether by walking along the river Thames that runs through the city or climbing St Mary’s Church Tower to see Oxford’s famous skyline firsthand.
Excursions
During the two-week programme, students go on excursions to different cities across Britain. These trips provide students with an insight into British culture and a chance to see how Oxford differs from other, more modern cities.
Students visit sites of interest, museums and historic buildings as well as having some free time to explore the city independently. Previous visits have included London and Oxford’s rival university, Cambridge.
Safety and Welfare
Oxford and Cambridge are both very safe cities and our students stay in the university colleges which are secure and supervised 24 hours a day. College porters are on duty both day and night and programme staff live in the college and are available and contactable at all times.
Students are required to check in with staff at meal times, in lessons and at evening curfew.
On arrival, students can be met and chaperoned from the airport to their programme. All students receive a welcome pack with maps and emergency contact numbers.
