Program Overview

Program Description:
The USF Ireland Travel/Study Tour for 2013 is led by Dr. Rick Wilber, who has been leading travel/study tour groups to Ireland, Scotland or England for nearly thirty years. The 2013 tour will be the twenty-first time he has led a group to Ireland.

There are three possible courses to take during the Ireland travel/study tour. They are Professional Writing (a senior-level writing course focused on travel writing and photography and/or short fiction), Mass Communications and Society (a junior-level course focused on Irish mass-media and how they compare with the media in the United States) and Directed Readings (focused on Irish fiction and non-fiction, as well as Irish film). Syllabi are available. You take any two courses from the three that are offered. Alternate coursework is possible through other majors and/or through the School of Mass Communications. See the instructor for that. Prior to travel: There are three mandatory two-hour classroom sessions that take place during spring semester 2012. If you are from another university and unable to attend these, we will try and arrange for you take part via Skype and we will send you the notes, forms and other information from these mandatory sessions. Setting Description:
Please see full itinerary for a details list of the locations to be visited on this program. The Scheduled Itinerary (subject to change): Tuesday, July 16th, 2013: Leave Tampa for overnight flight to Dublin, Ireland, arriving early on Wednesday morning. Wednesday, July 17th: Arrival at Dublin Airport and then travel by motor coach into Dublin and Trinity College Dublin, where we’ll check into our dormitory apartments. After a nap, we’ll take a double-decker bus tour of central Dublin. Evening open. Thursday, July 18th: In residence at Trinity College. Morning session on Irish literature and mass media. Afternoon visit to the National Museum of Ireland and a walking tour of the Grafton Street/Stephen’s Green area. Evening begins with a walking tour to the nearby Temple Bar district and then evening open thereafter. Friday, July 19th: In residence at Trinity College Dublin. Approximate Total Program Cost $3995.00 Include Program Features: This amount includes all in-Ireland group travel (trains, motor coaches, city tours, ferries, day-trip tours) and also includes full breakfast while in Galway and Killarney.
