Program Description:

Experience the real Italy while studying abroad in Perugia for a semester, the academic year, or a summer. Get United States university credits for a wide variety of exciting courses that will change each participant's perspective on life and give him or her hands-on experience. Often called the big university town in a small Italian city, Perugia is home to the Umbra Institute, an American study abroad program offering semester, year-long, and summer programs. Students can choose from a variety of courses with integrated field trips to world-famous Italian cities and sites, community engagement opportunities, and extra-curricular activities, such as wine tasting and language exchanges.

General Studies Summer Program (3 to 6 credits): five-week program consisting of one or two elective courses from a diverse list of offerings. Intensive Italian through Culture Program (8 credits): six-week intensive language course and cultural activities for all levels. Trasimeno Archaeological Field School (6 credits): curricular concentration in Archaeology and History based in nearby beautiful Castiglione del Lago with daily excavations.

Availability for pre-departure questions; Private airport pick-up in Rome and transfer to Perugia; Two-day orientation in Perugia including a practical city walking tour; Co-curricular field trips to world-renowned historic sites and famous cities; Optional Trip, a staff-guided trip offered to explore beautiful, scenic Italy; Mandatory Italian language courses to learn practical skills to communicate with locals; Tandem language exchange with Italian university students; A variety of extracurricular activities (pizza-making workshop, sports with Italian university students, etc.); Educational and cultural workshops on Independent Travel, Presentation and PowerPoint, and Reentry to the U.S.; Communication: monthly newsletters, Wi-Fi in all student apartments, frequent posts on the Umbra Cell phones or SIM cards rental services available; Emergency phone and medical care available 24 hours a day; Life-coaching and counseling service, and Staff trained in crisis management.
