Program Overview

Program Description:

Experience the melting pot of cultures in Morocco! Discover the incredible scenery of this unique destination as you experience its many landscapes and meander through the streets of Rabat, Fez, and Marrakesh.

Start your journey in the country’s capital, Rabat, where you’ll explore the city’s diverse neighborhoods, street markets, and ancient medina. Local experts will teach your group about aspects of modern Moroccan society, including religion and gender roles. Take formal Moroccan Arabic—also known as Darija—language lessons, learn to cook traditional meals, and try your hand at time-honored Moroccan arts, such as music and dance, tapestry weaving, and tablet writing. Ride camels across sandy dunes at sunset and gaze at the stars at the edge of the Sahara.

Your Experiment continues to unfold as you spend two weeks in a rural community, immersed in the daily life of a Moroccan family. Experience Morocco’s flavorful cuisine as you share delicious tagines and mint tea with your host siblings. During this period, you and your group will participate in a community service project such as planting trees, painting a school, or teaching English to children.

Marvel at the ruins of Volubilis on your way to Fez, where you will take a guided tour of the medieval medina, exploring its madrasas, fondouks, palaces, mosques, and fountains. In Marrakesh, Morocco’s unofficial cultural center, you will see storytellers, snake charmers, acrobats, and other street performers in the famous Jamaa el Fna Square. Spend a day in Ouarzazate, the largest town in the Moroccan Sahara, with sandy streets and fort-like buildings that have been the backdrop for many blockbuster movies. Your program concludes back in Rabat.
