Program Description:
Students on the Russian Language Study Tour live in Petrozavodsk in the Pedagogical Academy dormitory and have many opportunities to meet and interact with Russian students who are eager to make friends with their American counterparts. Indeed, contact with Russian speakers outside the classroom plays as important a role in language training as formal coursework. American students are encouraged to spend most of their time with Russian speakers - not with other Americans.

The College of St. Scholastica and the Karelian Pedagogical Academy present the Russian Language Study Tour June 7 - July 12, 2012. Students attend language classes taught by experienced faculty at the Karelian Pedagogical Academy in Petrozavodsk and explore the amazing culture and landscape of northern Russia through excursions in Karelia and visits to St. Petersburg and Moscow. Three levels of language instruction from novice to intermediate. No previous knowledge of Russian is necessary!

The program features trips within Karelia and to St. Petersburg and Moscow. The price includes round-trip transportation from Minneapolis to Russia, ground transportation within Russia, housing, meals, four undergraduate semester credits, St. Scholastica registration, participant fees, study materials and instruction at the Karelian Pedagogical Academy.
Setting Description:
Petrozavodsk, about 240 miles northeast of St. Petersburg, is located on the shore of Lake Onega at the edge of a wilderness of incomparable beauty. A variety of restaurants, shops, theaters, museums and other amenities in Petrozavodsk add richness to one's stay there.
Cost:
The entire program costs $4,250 and includes round-trip transportation to Russia, ground transportation in Russia, housing, meals, four undergraduate semester credits, St. Scholastica registration, participant fees, study materials, Russian visas and instruction at the Karelian Pedagogical Academy. A $50 deposit reserves a space in the program.
