Program Overview
- Program Description:
- The Surgical Technologist program is a 94.5-quarter course and leads to an Associate in Occupational Studies degree. Swedish Institute’s Surgical Technologist classes are held during weekday daytime hours so that you can begin your career as a Surgical Technologist in as little as 21 months. The Surgical Technologist program prepares students to become an integral part of the surgical team. As a health professional whose primary responsibility is assisting and attending the surgeon, the Surgical Technologist usually works under pressure, with focused concentration, speed and accuracy for extended periods of time. The integrative approach at Swedish Institute will prepare students to work in this important field while caring for themselves and their patients. Students learn anatomy and physiology, surgical procedures, and safe and effective conditions required for surgery. Through laboratory and hands-on practice, students learn proper procedures for creating and maintaining sterile conditions, setting up the operating room, and the preparation of equipment and instruments in advance of surgery.
Surgical Technologists work in a variety of settings such as hospital surgical departments, outpatient surgical centers, physician’s offices, ambulatory surgical centers and in the private sector in medical sales, product development and education.
