Program Overview

Program Description:

Spring International Language Center, located on the Auraria Higher Education Center campus, is the intensive English language program serving the University of Colorado Denver, Metropolitan State College of Denver and the Community College of Denver. Students completing Level 6 have the TOEFL requirement waived if they meet all eligibility requirements. Spring International is accredited by both CEA and ACCET and was founded in 1979 as a program designed to prepare students for success in higher education programs or in their professional life where English is required.

This six-level program offers classes in grammar, reading/writing, listneing/speaking and elective classes designed to improve integrating these skills. Five 9-week sessions are offered throughout the year. New students are placed in one of six levels based on their placement test scores administered on their first day of the program. Progress from one level to the next is determined through in-class work and assessments that demonstrate how well a student can meet the level's learning objectives.

In addition to a strong curriculum and highly qualified faculty with advanced degrees and certificates in teaching English as a second language, Spring International provides many student services including airport pickup, host family placement, university placement advising, and an array of social activities. The campus has three student dormitory options if students do not want to live with an American family. All Spring International students receive campus IDs which allows access to all campus facilities and activities at student rates.

Setting Description:

The Auraria campus is located in downtown Denver and is easily accessible by public transportation. Spring International is located in the Tivoli Student Union, at the hub of campus activity. Denver is a medium sized, safe city of approximately 600,000 people and the greater metropolitan area has close to 3 million people. The climate is mild and dry with over 300 days of sunshine a year. Nearby, the Rocky Mountains provide excellent world-class skiing and snowboarding in winter and wonderful hiking and river-rafting in the summer.
