- Program Description:
- Our RSI College Musical Theater Program offers young adults ages 18 to 24 the opportunity to perform in a Broadway Style Musical, and to mentor younger Italian cast members in a production directed and choreographed by New York and Los Angeles industry professionals. Moreover, it allows participants the chance to perform in another country which gives great exposure, and the occasion to work with another culture which is a rare and precious opportunity. We strive to give our students a once in a lifetime experience.
Students will participate in every step of putting up a musical theater production. Acting students will be cast in lead roles to help anchor the primarily Italian speaking cast and have the opportunity to mentor the Italian students in English. Technical theater students will stage manage and run the technical aspects of the show while also engaging with the Italian students as a part of their English immersion experience. All students will take part in creating the set and props for the show. Bonding within the cast is inevitable and celebrated in our final cast party.
All study abroad programs are invaluable sources of experience and information. Our specific program offers both a cultural and artistic education with a rare opportunity to take ownership in a full production. The participation in the English immersion aspect of the program is truly unique. Previous experiences with local Italian students have resulted in increased knowledge of English, enthusiasm for continuation of learning the language, and a passion for theater. Our American students have a very rewarding overall experience.
