Program Description:

Herbalism is the use of plants for therapeutic purposes to treat and prevent disease and promote health. Colombia is the 2nd most biodiverse nation in the world and most Colombians accept herbs as part of reliable natural forms of healing. Our partner site is a 2-generation family-own shop with a common inventory of over 120 herbs provided to the community.  While volunteering you may learn:
 

  • How to identify herbs
  • How to grow herbs
  • The use of herbs
  • “Wildcrafting” or picking herbs
  • How to run an herbs shop
  • Manufacturing herbal products

 

Educational Background:

Undergraduate & Professionals in any of the following fields:  Pharmacy, Medicine, Pre-Med, Nursing, Public Health, Botany, Public Relations, Marketing, and/or Business Administration; or a high level of interest and commitment to learning about traditional herbal medicine
