Program Overview
- Program Description:
- Middlebury-Monterey Language Academy offers renowned language and cultural immersion programs for high school students passionate about world language study. Our Spain Academy, located in Granada, is a four-week study abroad program where students gain valuable language skills and confidence interacting in a second language. Students will visit cultural and historical sites in Spain, all while speaking in Spanish 24/7 throughout the program, leading to tremendous language gains.
Students will participate in Spanish classes each morning and then participate in cultural exploration activities in the afternoon and evenings. Field trips within Granada will include the Granada Science Museum, along with the Alhambra and Generalife and other cultural and historical sites.
This past summer, 91% of beginning students gained a full language level on the American Council of Teaching of Foreign Language’s proficiency scale. Over the years, the Academy has seen up to 88% of all students across language levels gain at least one full level and roughly 45% of students gain two or more levels.
- Setting Description:
- In the heart of Granada, and within walking distance of the Alhambra, is the Santo Domingo Vistillas campus, a private, Catholic residential school where the Academy will be held. Academy students will live on-campus where their classes and many co-curricular activities will take place. Students will eat in the Santo Domingo cafeteria and will have access to a computer lab during select hours on campus. Students will live in either triple or single accommodations. Although the residence hall is not air conditioned, each student will have a fan in his or her room.
