The Lexia programs introduce students to the language, history, art, architecture, politics, economics and culture of Germany, while locating Berlin in the larger context of East Central Europe. Coursework, language training, workshops, excursions, and the experience of living in a family homestay or shared apartment help students understand the local culture as they confront the issues facing Berlin and Germany, including the challenges of German unification since 1989 and the role of Germany in this ongoing period of transformation in Europe.

Setting Description:
Berlin has been at the center of European history over the last two centuries. Now an historic world capital, the city has become a fascinating microcosm of the New Europe, marked by active involvement in the European Union and progressive social welfare policies but also by struggles with political extremism and tensions over immigration.
