Schools / Caring placements are in institutions working with children in care, children with physical disabilities, children with learning difficulties and street children. Volunteers help with caring which is fairly demanding work. Children with disabilities and young adults placements are in a state school for disabilities that offers a broad range of activities and professional support. Volunteers help with teaching, caring, gym, dance and general art. The street children project offers a variety of roles from gathering in the street children, the outreach program, teaching English, helping with homework, art, producing a newsletter, or helping at the clinic doing basic chores.
Teaching/Music: One placement is in Cuenca at the “Conservatorio de Musica”, music conservatoire, to teach music to children and young adults. Volunteers assist with teaching and are allocated their own students. The other music placement is the Fundacion Brass Band de Ecuador in Quito working in the north of Quito with kids who have musical talent but have otherwise no economic means to study any instruments. Volunteers are involved in teaching as well as in preparation and playing in concerts. The volunteers can also teach English in the afternoons.
Teaching/Community: We offer a unique placement of community living in the Andean cloud forest. This is an isolated and very beautiful organic farming community of about 50 families and an environmental centre about 1.5 to 2 hrs from the capital city. The community produces jams, cheeses, etc, and is involved in reforestation projects as well as attempting to set up as an ecotourism venture. Our volunteers teach in the community school in the mornings and are involved in other activities in the afternoons such as guiding on treks, and sometimes herding cattle!
