- Program Description:
- Kazimierz Wielki University is one of the youngest wide-profile university in our country. It came into existence on September 1, 2005. However the history of the University dates back to 1969 when the Teachers' Training College was founded. Nowadays Kazimierz Wielki University in Bydgoszcz is a dynamically developing institution of higher education, the largest in the city and the second largest in the region in terms of number of professors, students, graduates and the number of degree courses.
Students receive a thorough education in both physics and computer science. In this way they gain proficiency in using computers to solve complex problems, not only related to physics, but also to other areas, where analytical and computational thinking is a key factor. The main foreign language taught during the study course is English. Graduates become fluent in this language in speaking and writing and are able to read specialized literature and technical documentation. Education in physics and computer science, including operating systems, IT engineering, programming combined with the ability of analytic thinking, makes the graduates attractive employees for both industry and a wide range of private companies, such as banks, market analysis companies, consulting firms, stock market, or governmental offices.
Teaching is conducted in the form of lectures, exercises, laboratories and seminars, with an emphasis on practical applications of knowledge (which is particularly important from the point of view of students’ future career). We use contemporary training aids to enhance the teaching process. The aids include, among others, multimedia presentations and computer simulations. Appropriate conditions for learning as well as individual contact of teachers with each student is provided by the small number of students in teaching groups — laboratory groups do not exceed 15 people, seminar groups —10 people.
- Setting Description:
- Bydgoszcz is the capital of the Kujawsko-Pomorskie province, situated in central Poland, by two rivers - Brda and Vistula. The history of the city reaches back to the 14th century, when King Casimir the Great gave the city its foundation privileges. Today Bydgoszcz, with its population of nearly 360 thousand people, is an industrial, commercial, cultural, educational and sport centre of the province. One of its strongest points is also the fact that it is an important road and railway junction. The modern international airport with regular connections to Warsaw, London, Dublin and Barcelona has been in operation since early 2004. In Bydgoszcz there are seats of many international concerns that deal with the electrotechnical industry, telecommunications and banking, such as Alcatel - Lucent, Tyco Electronics, Atos Origin, Jabil, and JP Morgan Chase. The city also houses NATO Joint Force Training Centre.
