These teaching and teaching-assistant projects are located in the centre of the colonial city of Santa Cruz. Volunteers teach during school mornings and/or afternoons, and generally enjoy a flexible schedule. There are about 600 children at the school. Students range from 6 to 18 years and each class has about 40 students. Volunteers will help the students learn English through conversation workshops, songs, games, and other fun activities. Volunteers also have the option of joining in with extracurricular activities including sports, arts and music.
This programme allows you to design your own schedule and curriculum, so you have the freedom to teach as you would like and give the rural children their first experiences of true english speaking tuition. Our trained programme coordinators provide you with support throughout.
Teachers in Bolivia are able to teach the grammatical writing and reading aspects of English, but teaching conversation and listening is more difficult, as there are few native English speakers in the area and pronunciation/usage is not always accurate. To have native or fluent English speakers come into the schools to teach is an incredible opportunity, and exciting for the children. These classes really help them to develop their English speaking ability, which is often the key to landing the more desirable jobs in Bolivia and abroad.
