Students studying in Wellington have the choice of two universities: Victoria University of Wellington and Massey University, Wellington.
Victoria University of Wellington, founded in 1897, has a strong research focus, particularly in connection with various cultural and research centers in Wellington, including the Crown Research Institute, the Te Papa Tongarewa Museum of New Zealand, and the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra. Among its wide range of courses, Victoria University boasts a world-renowned performing arts department and an internationally acclaimed business school. The University's strengths also run to Film and Media Studies, Political Science and International Relations, Architecture and Design, and Earth Sciences. The university is recognized by the Ministry of Education, New Zealand.
Massey University's Wellington campus, known as Massey's Creative Campus, has established itself as a center of excellence for study and research with a focus on four broad areas: Communication and Business, Engineering and Technology, Health and Well-being, and Creative Arts. The Wellington campus is home to the prestigious College of Creative Arts, New Zealand's most distinguished School of Design.
