Located within the Mediterranean, the Aegean Sea has a rich history and precious ecosystem, where interns lend their valuable assistance to ongoing scientific research and conservation efforts. The program requires a high level of initiative and independence, as interns have the opportunity to contribute ideas, create projects, practice research and field work skills. Internship activities take place in Samos and surrounding islands, such as Ikaria, Lipsi and Leros. Research trips can sometimes include visits to other nearby surrounding islands.
Apart from stunning landscapes and beaches, Samos has a very rich cultural and maritime history, offering something new to explore with every step. The island is home to the Pythagoreion UNESCO World Heritage Site and the birthplace of Pythagoras, Epicurus and the astronomer Aristarchus of Samos.
