- Program Type:
- Study Abroad
- Degree Level:
- Summer, Winter Semester
- Program Description:
The Spanish poet and playwright Federico García Lorca described the “duende” as the magical moment of inspiration that opens the doors of colorful perceptions “driving us to the sublime.” These emotions are the starting point for our passion for the culture of flamenco, theatre, and dance.
During this course students will explore the world of exotic creativity travelling culturally, in time and space, through the intricate relationship between the Spanish culture and the flamenco expression that gave birth to the iconic theme of “the magic and the duende”. Students will be introduced to the field of artistic expression as means of communication of personal ideas and emotions through the arts including music, dance, acting, voice, rhythm, image, and movement. We will work as a team learning the different sides of the theatrical process with the aim of developing a performance piece, which will be shown to the public at the end of the course.
This course has been adapted to a hybrid structure that combines three integrated modules: online program, bridge sessions, and immersion experience. The course has been carefully designed to offer a practical, personal, and international experience. Online sessions are designed to be held through Zoom, in synchronous classes where you will meet with your professor and fellow students, and work in small groups or hold individual advising sessions.
The structure of this course is defined in three different modules:
Online Sessions: It is a two-week program where students cover the content of the course online through synchronous daily class meeting with the professor and classmates in real time. Students will do individual as well as collaborative work on specific topics and projects.
Bridge Sessions: Students will come together twice a month to continue working in their collaborative projects. Classes will also include specific advising sessions, workshops, roundtables and activities with guest speakers and business professionals.
Onsite immersion session: As a conclusion of the program students will participate in a two-week immersion program in Madrid, Spain. This capstone experience will allow participants to enjoy a full direct learning, visiting all cultural and historical sites subject of study as well as meeting all partners, experts and guest that participated in the previous part of the program.
