- EcuaExplora, one of the leading volunteer organizations in Ecuador, has partnered with an organization offering a perfect program for medical professionals who want to hands on healthcare experience in a clinical setting coupled with four hours of focused medical Spanish classes daily. While you bolster your resume and met requisite levels of Spanish proficiency, this program will give each volunteer a unique immersion leading to unique insights on global health, traditional medicine in resource poor communities, and thorough, targeted medical language study so you will be able to communicate effectively with patients and staff in your particular field of medicine.
This project is based in the scenic city of Quito, providing excellent opportunities for volunteers to immerse themselves to the local culture as well as in the traditional medicine or maternal/reproductive health outside of Quito in Sierra or in the Amazon. Volunteers will be housed with one of the carefully screened homestay families, be given Spanish lessons, and will get to explore beautiful Ecuador through adventure and cultural excursions. EcuaExplora also provides outstanding on-site staff support.
Airport pickup, homestay accommodations with two meals/day, health/safety/cultural orientation, program supervision, and a 24 hour staff support. Fees do not include airfare, insurance, any VISA fees. And optional one on one Spanish classes can be arranged for an extra fee.
- Setting Description:
- 1. This program is ideal for those who want to expand their experience and knowledge in health care, the global health issues, traditional medicine, medical practice in resource poor communities while experiencing the unique culture of Quito. 2. Participants can volunteer for a minimum of one month and placements are offered year-round. 3. A Spanish class can be arranged for a half day class and the other half of the day will be spent at the medical internship site. 4. Volunteers will get to practice their conversational Spanish with their host families and be provided with two meals per day 5. On time off, volunteers can explore the colorful indigenous market in Otavalo, the Cloud Forest of Mindo, the Crater Lake along the Quilota Loop or hike the Cotopaxi volcano. Or just explore the old city of Quito, a World Heritage Site, and the capital’s diverse programming of exciting theater, music, art, and culture.
