Program Description:

Our school is located in a rural town, San Juan de la Maguana, in the Dominican Republic. We currently offer English lessons to local students as part of an after school institute program, where we eventually hope to also offer art lessons. Our wish is to create a safe, loving and caring environment conducive to learning where students can come and .

Our program has evolved during the last four years, having to adapt to an increase in students and a wide variety of ages. Children, between the ages of six and eleven, participate in fun, artistic and creative classes which teach them basic English speaking and listening skills. Teenagers between the ages of twelve and sixteen partake in practice based learning, where the teacher kindly guides them towards their ultimate goal - to read, listen, speak and communicate using English as a second language.

Setting Description:

The school currently functions in two classrooms equipped with basic classroom furnishings and technology. We are slowly introducing a lending library in order to improve our students' reading skills as well as creative thinking skills. The teaching environment we try to create is flexible and relies on self-motivation, guidance and orientation is offered along the way, as well as consultation and reflection gatherings in order to improve teacher skills.
