Program Overview
- Program Description:
- Make art in Ireland this summer. Cow House Studios is proud to offer the only international teen summer art programme in Ireland. Art on the Farm presents an exciting opportunity to the adventurous, self-motivated student seeking a rewarding experience focused on the visual arts. During this three-week course, young artists benefit from an environment dedicated to fostering professional arts practice in a country long celebrated for its artistic inspiration.
At CHS we teach drawing, painting and photography through expertly guided classes and rigourous studio practice. Our curriculum is centred around research, experimentation and critical thinking, complimented by practical demonstrations and workshops to advance technical knowledge. Furthermore, lectures and gallery visits introduce students to artists working in a variety of media. We encourage a multidisciplinary approach, exploring ideas through a variety of materials, processes and media.
Our small class size and intimate setting allow us to approach our curriculum with great flexibility. Our students come to us with diverse backgrounds: some have used oil paints, while others are familiar with working in the darkroom. Some students come to us having had little practice in the art room, but with a great desire to improve their artistic practice. This spectrum of interests and experience creates an interesting dynamic and opportunity for new possibilities of creative expression.
- Setting Description:
- CHS is named for its practical origins on the O'Gorman family farm, where for over 250 years the family has lived and worked the land. Nestled at the foot of the Blackstairs Mountains, it is located three miles from the village of Rathnure, County Wexford. The vision of two artists, fortified by the generosity of the O'Gorman family, has transformed the function of the Cow House from a beautiful stone structure used for bedding cows into a studio facilitating contemporary visual arts practice.
- Cost:
- Tuition is €3,500 for one three week session. This fee includes accommodation, three nutritious meals per day, all art supplies, use of studio equipment, field trip transportation, room and entrance fees, transportation to and from Dublin airport, use of laundry facility and bed linens.
