Program Overview

Program Description:

Engage in Model UN–style debates and other interactive simulations. See the real deal at famous think tanks like the Carnegie Moscow Center, the Russian International Affairs Council, and the PIR Center for Nonproliferation Studies. Enjoy campus life at a prestigious boarding school; bond with Russian peers over board games, cooking classes and movie nights; and tour legendary architecture and landmarks like the Kremlin and Red Square.

Co-hosted by the prestigious Moscow State Institute of International Relations (MGIMO) and CIEE, this new program provides unparalleled access to government institutions and experts in diplomacy and world affairs. Along with engaging classes, you’ll participate in skill-building workshops and site visits to the U.S. Embassy, the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the UN Information Centre in Moscow. You’ll also volunteer at the American Center and Russkiy Mir Foundation to promote intercultural understanding during a critical time in history.

Your summer home will be a double or triple room at the Gorchakov Lyceum, MGIMO’s new preparatory high school, located on a suburban campus about 40 minutes from the center of Moscow. Modern amenities include a comprehensive sports facility, and a school cafeteria where you’ll eat breakfast and dinner. You’ll also have opportunities to check out the international food scene in Moscow with your group. Must-try street foods include ponchiki, (powdered-sugar doughnut balls served in a paper bag) and pirozhki (mini pies with savory or fruit fillings). It’s also easy to find gyros, falafel and other pita wraps for meals on the go.

After 3 weeks, you’ll come away with a better understanding of the complex field of diplomacy, a certificate from the prestigious MGIMO, and the essential tools and mindset to put active, responsible global citizenship into practice back in high school, in college and the world beyond.
