Program Overview

Program Description:
CHINAYP's Semester in China is a study abroad program created for students eager to learn the Chinese language and culture. The CHINAYP model, along with our attention to detail, makes it possible to guide groups of students towards the common goal of mastering the Chinese language. Students are encouraged to immerse themselves in the unique culture that makes China such a magnificent destination. They don’t just study Chinese, but progressively become more acquainted with China as they build upon their experiences throughout the semester.

Not only is each language unique, but every person learns differently! CHINAYP takes extraordinary steps to connect students with schools, and then works with those schools to ensure that all language programs measure up to CHINAYP’s high standards, and to the expectations of students and their families. At the core of the Semester in China program is the CHINAYP Model. The principal elements are: -Customized curriculum -Easing into full immersion -Students teaching one another -Students taking responsibility for the welfare of the group -First-hand experience of living with a Chinese family -Finding joy in learning Chinese

Safety is a top priority. Parents should know that CHINAYP feels the heavy responsibility of caring for your teenager’s safety. During orientation, participants are briefed on CHINAYP’s safety procedures, including emergency protocols. Thereafter, safety procedures are reviewed often. We are confident that there is no other organization as uniquely qualified as China Youth Program to both educate and to provide a life-changing adventure for high school students. Students should consider this as an opportunity to create personal memories to last a lifetime. CHINAYP strives to be the best organization available for teens interested in either touring China, immersing in the culture, or in learning the basics of the Chinese language. We understand that in order to achieve this goal staff must consider each family and participant individually. Dedicated CHINAYP employees spend countless hours behind the scenes so students can focus on having a positive, life-altering adventure.

Nanjing is the capital city of Jiangsu province, one of China’s most commercially developed regions. However because it is often overshadowed by the more famous megacities of Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou, Nanjing remains one of China’s best-kept secrets! Nanjing is located approximately 190 miles from Shanghai and 650 miles from Beijing and boasts an urban population of about 6 million. It is a business, political, educational, and cultural hub, with a thriving economy. Nearly every western brand and amenity is available in the city. Fortunately, despite westernization and development, Nanjing has maintained its distinct “Chinese feel.” The city has a rich, well-preserved culture and history. Nanjing may be the best place in China for outsiders to become familiar with the country and learn Chinese! Students are placed at host schools in groups of ten or more. They live in dorms during the week and stay with local families on weekends. This balance allows students to effectively le
