Program Overview
- Program Description:
Take your camera outside the studio and into the vast landscapes of Iceland. Anyone can point and shoot. Few can bring forth the technical skills required to capture a memory, tell a story or inspire a feeling. Be one of those few as you join a group of eager photographers in search of the perfect photograph. Follow the coast of Iceland full-circle in pursuit of its relentless natural beauty. Capture images of gushing geysers, frozen cliffs and volcanic craters as you propel your photography skills to the next level. Return home with a stunning portfolio of professional-quality images and a mental album of unforgettable memories. Earn 3 college credits, master advanced Lightroom and Photoshop techniques, and improve your composition skills. Walk away with a deeper appreciation for other cultures, ideas and beliefs. All that you have seen and captured comes together in a professional portfolio. Along the way, you will explore cultural landmarks, take a whale watching tour, visit the Reykjanes lava fields, volancic craters, hot springs and geothermal waters.
- Setting Description:
- With your camera in tow, embark on an otherworldly Iceland expedition. You’ll circumnavigate the entire coast of Iceland, capturing images of gushing geysers, frozen cliffs and volcanic craters. Visit the Reykjanes lava fields, hot springs and geothermal waters. Take in the brightly colored rooftops of Reykjavik and then visit the roaring Seljlandsfoss waterfall. Hike Thórsmörk, an enormous, rocky mountain ridge named for the Norse god, Thor, and get a panoramic view of your sea-level surroundings. No studio, or Photoshopped-in backdrop can approximate the natural beauty found north near Mývatn, a shallow lake in the middle of an active volcanic area. Stop at the picturesque harbor town of Húsavík, the whale-watching capital of Iceland, to board a boat, and then make your way to Eyrarbakki to hone your Lightroom and Photoshop skills as you edit the vast library of images you’ve accumulated.

Nothing but praise to say about this program. As my first ever trip abroad I was naturally extremely nervous and didn't know what to expect. Broadreach reached out to me multiple times asking if I had any concerns for the trip, and after listening contently
they would tell me everything that they would do to take that fear away or make me feel more comfortable. The group size on my program was perfect, there were around 9 of us which allowed us all to really get to know each other. The people I met on this program, as well as my leaders, were all so inspiring, their way of lives and positive energy is something that I will carry with me forever. I miss everyone I met, we all still keep in touch in a group chat we made while on the trip. If you are debating if this is something you would want to do I highly recommend it, it was scary and a big step but I've met people who have truly touched my life and inspired me.

The Iceland Advanced Photography course was a wonderful trip, and I had a lot of fun. The highlight of the trip, was, of course, the location. Iceland is very beautiful and the organization of this trip means one is able to experience the entire country
over the course of the three week trip. The various activities we did along the way–from whale watching to snorkeling–made the trip feel new at very corner, and always interesting. I also enjoyed that at the end of the trip, we had access to facilities which allowed us to print some of our photos and show them to our peers. The instructors and the students were both very friendly. The instructors were easy to approach when there was a problem, and the students were easy to befriend. When a student wasn't feeling well before a certain activity, they worked together to find the best resolution, which could include the student opting not to do that specific activity if they so desired. This removed a lot of the stress in doing new things, and it meant that nobody felt forced to do something they didn't want to or feel able to do. I chose this trip over other Broad Reach trips because it is more relaxed, and significantly less outdoorsy than some other trips. There was always a bed to sleep in, and the furthest we ever went from a habitat was a short days hike. This was essential to me because I wanted to be able to experience Iceland and practice my photography without going too far out of society.

I traveled to Panama for 17 days as a junior in high school expecting to come back with a set of photography skills, but I returned with so much more than that. Throughout the trip I was able to experience numerous activities that enhanced my appreciation
for both traveling and learning, such as white water rafting, seeing baby sea turtles, zip-lining, and simply exploring the different locations we visited while being immersed in the unique culture. My instructors did an amazing job teaching us how to capture what we experienced with our cameras and made us feel at home as we traveled around Panama. I'm so glad I decided to go on this trip since I was able to do what I love while forming new friendships and going on new adventures every day. I highly recommend this trip to anyone interested in photography- you will have the time of your life!
