- Setting Description:
- Altos de Chavón is an enchanting re-creation of a medieval European village that sits on a cliff overlooking a peaceful river. Cobblestone streets lined with lanterns take you through the antiqued stone buildings to small cafés where you will have your meals, or to quaint shops featuring the craft-work of local artisans. Three art galleries exhibit the work of the school’s students and an on-site museum provides an interesting tour. A 5,000-seat Roman-styled amphitheater provides an idyllic space for daydreaming and sketching when it is not in use for concerts. The area is secured with guarded entrances, making it a safe place to study and create. The pristine white sand beaches with turquoise waters and warm and friendly locals have made the Dominican Republic the top tourist destination in the region.
