Program Description:
Rome Prize fellowships are offered in the following categories: Architecture; Design; Historic Preservation and Conservation; Landscape Architecture; Musical Composition; Visual Arts; Ancient Studies, Medieval Studies; Renaissance and Early Modern Studies; and Modern Italian Studies.
PLEASE NOTE: Undergraduates are not eligible for the Rome Prize.

One of the leading overseas centers for independent study and advanced research in the arts and the humanities, the American Academy in Rome offers up to thirty fellowships for periods of six-months, eleven-months, or two-years.

The Academy operates a program of residential appointments in Rome that nourishes individual artistic and intellectual endeavors and fosters interdisciplinary exchange, drawing scholars into the creative process and artists into the evolving history of their disciplines. Since 1894 the Academy has awarded over 1,500 Rome Prize fellowships.
Setting Description:
Rome Prize winners reside at the Academy's eleven-acre center atop the Janiculum Hill in Rome and receive room and board, a study or studio, and a stipend of $27,000 for 11-month Fellows and $15,000 for six-month Fellows.
Cost:
The fee for submitting an application is $30 for a single application or $40 for multiple applications.
