Program Overview

Program Description:

Courses are no longer confined to the four walls of the classroom with APA's short-term programs in Paris! Over the span of three weeks, professors guide their class throughout the city to learn hands-on about such topics as social and racial justice through the lens of hip hop artists and dancers or the influential inspirations of artists and sculptors of the 1800s.

June Short-Term: This program is in English. Students follow one course, worth four credit hours:

  • Power, Beauty and Revolution: 19th Century Art and Architecture in the Paris Metropole

  • Urban Identities, Popular Culture and French Multiculturalism

 

August Short-Term: This program is in French. Students follow one course, worth four credit hours:

  • Intermediate French Language

  • Power, Beauty and Revolution: 19th Century Art and Architecture in the Paris Metropole

  • Urban Identities, Popular Culture and French Multiculturalism

Each student receives a culture package with a variety of events and activities that highlight the rich heritage of Paris such as a day trip to Monet's gardens at Giverny and guided tours of noted neighborhoods like the Latin Quarter and Le Marais.

Students stay at a residence located five minutes away from the APA center in the 14th arrondissement. June Short-Term participants have the option of homestay living.

Setting Description:
The APA Paris center is located in the south of Paris, on the charming little street of Villa d’Alésia. Located five minutes from the Alésia metro stop, it is lined with artists’ studios and private homes with gardens. The APA Paris office has space reserved for students to meet informally, study, or relax and is equipped with Wi-Fi, reference books, and several computers.
