Bonjour from Paris!

Hey everyone! My name is Caroline Burke and I am studying abroad this semester in Paris, France! As of today, I have been living here for exactly 2 months! It is hard to belive how fast the time is going by. So much has happened already, but before I jump into posting about my European adventure, here is a little background about where I am going to school and living:

Saturday in Edinburgh

The first thing to know about Edinburgh is that most Americans pronounce it wrong.  It is not meant to have a harsh "o" sound at the end, but rather to be pronounced "Edinburra".  Even if it sounds a bit ridiculous to you at first the effort will be appreciated.

Black Tie

One of the things that sets St Andrews apart from most other universities is that there are regular black tie balls. If you wanted to you could probably find one almost every weekend.  Most people, though, just go to a few each semester. When they say black tie, that doesn't necessarily mean that you have to dress like you're going to prom or wear a floor-length gown, though many people do.

Limbo Period

Welcome Week is now over and we all are moving to our new residential colleges that we will be staying in for the semester. It was weird leaving because everyone just went to their separate ways. Many people are not living in residential colleges, instead they had to find apartments near campus. There is one group of 15 kids who were thrown in a house together in Kilda Beach, which is 30 minutes away from college. They are calling their experience "Real World Australia: Kilda Beach".
