The town offers a variety of shops. Traditional Irish pubs, and other student attractions and excursions to limerick, Galway, Belfast, and other Irish towns are within three hours travel by train. In 1910 St. Maynooth became a recognized College of the National University of Ireland, and, since 1966, the College has been open to students of Arts, Sciences, Philosophy, Celtic Studies, and Theology. Anthropology, Sociology, and Physics are especially strong fields of study at NUI Maynooth.

Students take two courses during the program and with schedules and prerequisites allowing, they are free to pick from all courses offered. They are able to take six credit hours and choose from thirteen different courses in eight different disciplines. NUI Maynooth is committed to providing an environment within which students can learn, develop and mature. The focus is on ensuring that all students have an experience that will benefit them not just academically, but personally as well, and that the environment is truly student-friendly. The ongoing program of investment in developing new courses, and in providing world-class teaching and research facilities, is one part of the equation. Another equally important part is the ongoing investment in expending and supporting student social and recitation facilities, and in particular in providing the necessary support for all students throughout their academic career.

Program costs include tuition, CCIS and sponsor fees, insurance, weekend trips, Maynooth University Student hosted Clubs and Society events, welcome banquet in historical Pugin dining hall, one optional day trip on the weekend to Belfast, Titanic museum and the Peace Wall, an on-campus private room in apartment style accommodation, and full board meal plan included Monday-Thursday and half-board Friday.
