Program Overview

Program Description:
Swinburne University of Technology is located in Melbourne, Australia. Recognized as one of the world's most liveable cities, Melbourne is the capital city of the southeastern state of Victoria, and is also identified as Australia's sporting and cultural capital. Encompassing six campuses, four of which cater to undergraduate study, Swinburne allows international students to experience the very best of Melbourne. The two inner suburban campuses are located in Hawthorn and Prahran, locations notable for their close proximity to many of the venues and amenities that make overseas study so enjoyable. Another undergraduate campus is located in Lilydale, a gateway suburb to the Yarra Valley, which is Victoria's premier wine-growing region and one of its most popular tourist destinations. In 1908, George Swinburne, a member of the Victorian Parliament and the former Mayor of Hawthorn, established the Eastern Suburbs Technical College. In 1913, the institution became Swinburne Technical College, a name that remained until 1992 when, by an act of parliament, Swinburne University of Technology was born. This was not only recognition of its distinguished history, but marked the beginning of a new era of growth and innovation. Today, Swinburne is building upon a strong reputation as one of the country's best universities for teaching, research and student diversity. It prides itself on being able to treat international students to an overseas study experience that is enjoyable, rewarding and memorable.

Students will be able to choose from a full range of courses. The language instruction is English. One of the university's major strengths is its size. Relative to many Australian Tertiary education providers, Swinburne is a small and highly-flexible institution. Swinburne teachers adhere to a philosophy that pupils should be taught how to think, not what to think. Studying within a supportive environment, students are encouraged to become self-sufficient, resourceful and entrepreneurial. They are also encouraged to take advantage of the university's cultural diversity and to participate in study groups with students from a range of backgrounds. Depending on the course, they will have the opportunity to participate in lectures, tutorials, laboratory and studio sessions, group work, cross-discipline projects, case studies, discussion groups and individual research projects. Excellent resources across all campuses, a commitment to personalized teaching and a truly global outlook make Swinburne a desirable option for international students looking to study abroad.

Program fees include: instructional costs abroad, CCIS and sponsor fees, CISI health insurance.
