Program Overview

Program Description:

New York Film Academy (NYFA) Gold Coast offers long-term, semester, 8-week, 4-week, & 1-week programs in a variety of filmmaking and visual arts disciplines. Students from all over the world come to NYFA Gold Coast to study with and create projects with peers from many different countries. Since 2011, NYFA Gold Coast has offered hands-on courses taught by award-winning instructors and filmmakers. NYFA’s programs are valuable to students from all disciplines who wish to enhance life skills, tell better stories, develop confidence, and hone creativity.

Filmmaking: NYFA Gold Coast’s long-term Filmmaking program is divided into two semesters and provides students with the foundation and experience necessary for making their own films. During the program, students write, shoot, direct, and edit eight of their own HD short films. No previous filmmaking experience is required. While each student gets experience writing, producing, directing, and editing his or her own films, students also get experience with crew. Every student rotates among crew positions when his or her classmates shoot.

Acting: Our long-term and semester Acting programs provide cutting-edge explorations into the art and practice of acting for the screen. From the very fist week, students begin acting in front of the camera. Students also practice techniques and skills with exercises that are shot and reviewed. Classes emphasize the basic elements of the craft of acting using the techniques of Stanislavski and Meisner, scene study, and monologue work as starting points. In conjunction with these classes, students also participate in courses that help hone the technical requirements of acting on a film set. The participants audition for the filmmaking student film projects. No prior experience is required—the program brings everyone to the same level quickly.

Documentary: In NYFA Gold Coast’s documentary program, students get a thorough education in the many facets of documentary filmmaking. Students will learn the skills necessary to succeed in the documentary industry.

Producing: At NYFA Gold Coast’s Producing program, aspiring producers are exposed to the many challenges that professional T.V. and film producers encounter in their careers. The NYFA Producing program includes in-class instruction and real-world experience as students work with other film school students to produce original projects.

Screenwriting: Over the course of the Screenwriting program, each student writes a feature-length screenplay and one T.V. "spec" script. Students can also workshop other treatments if applicable. Screenwriting students enjoy an integrated program where they learn about film craft, acting, pitching, and cinema studies. This well-rounded education helps students improve screenplays and understand the industry.

3D Animation: NYFA Gold Coast offers expert facilities for Animation students. Students learn the technical essentials and how to create their own work. Students interested in this program do not need previous experience, although those with a background in studio art & computer programs are encouraged to apply.

Please note: Space in NYFA Gold Coast programs is limited and demand is high. We recommend that prospective students apply early to secure a space.
