Program Overview

Program Description:
The Department of Chemistry is offering unique program in Siena, allowing students to spend five weeks in Siena and take courses and do laboratory work that connect chemistry with art, architecture, and the food and wine industry. Participants will spend most of their time studying at the University of Siena and take excursions to monuments, vineyards, museums, a glass blowing factory, and other points of interest. Students will also experience the unique culture of Siena by attending the world famous Palio horse race. The program includes visits to other cities and towns, including Rome (where the program officially begins), Florence, San Gimignano, and other parts of Tuscany.

Academic Focus: Chemistry Studies Eligibility Requirements: CHEM 171/172 or 221/222. Cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or higher. Good academic standing; at least 18 years of age; completion of a full year of college; currently enrolled at a college/university. Applications will be reviewed by faculty directing the program. Courses: Program participants take 2 Chemistry courses for a total of 8 credit hours.

The total cost of the program includes an academic fee and a program fee for room, partial board, and insurance.
Setting Description:
The program is based in Siena, although there are excursions to Rome, Florence, San Gimignano, and other parts of Tuscany.
