Program Overview

Program Description:
The CDP program prepares current and future community development practitioners, activists, and scholars to take on the challenges and struggles facing urban areas in the United States. In the program, students learn alternative ways of thinking and transforming communities to achieve greater equity and social justice. The Dual M.A. in CDP combines MBA requirements with CDP coursework in the department of International Development, Community and Environment, which is dedicated to addressing the greatest challenges of the twenty-first century: environmental sustainability, social justice and economic well-being. The program combines MBA coursework to give graduate students preparation for leadership in a broad range of fields, including nonprofit operations and management, civil service, consulting, entrepreneurship and education. Details on coursework towards completing a dual CDP/MBA is provided here. CDP students receive a strong foundation based on theory, skill development, and practice. Building on that foundation, students can either design their own area of specialization, or focus their studies on one of the following areas: Community Planning, Enterprise Management and Economic Development or, Community-Based Development and Social Change. Graduates of the CDP M.A./M.B.A. dual degree program may pursue careers in the nonprofit sector, municipal government, private consulting, entrepreneurial leadership, education, and more.
