Program Overview

Program Description:
In the Master of Arts in Counseling program at St. Edward’s University, you’ll study the intricacies of counseling clients with personal problems, career concerns or psychological disorders and how to determine the best treatment options. You’ll learn from accomplished mental health professionals working in the field and have opportunities to role-play and enhance your skills in our state-of-the-art Center for Counselor Training. Taking three semesters a year and two classes per semester, the MAC program is typically completed in three years. Some students elect to pursue three classes per semester, completing the program in two years.

To apply, you should have: • A U.S. bachelor’s degree or its equivalent from a regionally accredited institution, with a minimum GPA of 3.0 in your last 60 hours of study or a 2.75 overall GPA. • Competitive scores on the GRE. If you’ve completed a minimum of 12 hours of graduate-level coursework with no grade below a “B,” this requirement may be waived. • Professional work experience is highly desirable but not required. Or, if you have at least three years of full-time work experience and a bachelor’s degree or its equivalent from a regionally accredited institution, you may be admitted conditionally if you meet one of these two criteria: • Minimum 3.0 GPA in the last 60 hours of college-level study or a 2.75 overall GPA. • Competitive scores on the GRE.
International Requirements:
If English is not your native language, you will additionally need to achieve a minimum score of 79 on the Internet-based TOEFL (or its equivalent in other formats) or a score of 6.0 on the IELTS. You may also need other documents in order to gain admission and should work closely with your admission coordinator on those requirements.
