Semester Courses

The International Summer Session at Hankuk University of Foreign Studies is a dynamic four-week study abroad program that brings together students and faculty from around the world to explore Korean and Asian studies in a multicultural academic environment. The program offers a wide range of English-taught courses in areas such as Korean culture, media, international relations, and economics, taught by renowned professors from Korea and abroad. Participants benefit from engaging classroom learning as well as cultural immersion through field trips to historical sites, museums, and modern attractions across Korea. Open to university students and individuals with an interest in the region, the ISS also provides scholarship opportunities, especially for early applicants and students from HUFS partner institutions. With a diverse student body and a strong focus on cross-cultural exchange, the HUFS ISS offers a rich, global experience in the heart of Seoul.

Eligibility

To be eligible for the study abroad program at Hankuk University of Foreign Studies in Seoul, South Korea, applicants must be at least 18 and enrolled in a higher education institution. Students from any academic background are welcome to apply, and no prior knowledge of Korean is required, as courses are available in English. That said, English proficiency is required. Applicants need to submit required documents, including a transcript, English proficiency verification, passport copy, and application form, to complete the process.

Academic Credit

Academic credit at Hankuk University follows a system similar to that of U.S. universities. To earn one credit, students must complete a total of 16 hours of coursework. Most courses are worth three credits and typically involve three lectures or seminars each week, with semesters lasting 16 weeks. In terms of U.S. standards, three Korean credits equate to three U.S. credits. Students may earn a maximum of 18 credits per semester, though due to the workload, the university suggests taking between 12 and 15 credits.
