Program Overview

Program Description:
The PhD in Management program is offered in five disciplines: Accounting; Financial Economics; Marketing; Organizational Behaviour & Human Resource Management; and Operations & Supply Chain Management. The program is based on an integrative and discipline supported approach to management problem solving. For example the Accounting discipline offers two areas of specialization: management accounting and financial accounting. The Financial Economics discipline builds on finance and economics. Marketing emphasizes service marketing, relationship marketing and branding. Research in these areas is cross-disciplinary. Organizational Behaviour & Human Resource Management focuses on micro and macro processes in the management of human resources, as well as, having a strategic focus. Operations & Supply Chain Management is supported by Operations Management, Economics and Marketing. Central to the entire program is the development of sophisticated quantitative and qualitative analysis skills. In preparation for the dissertation, the doctoral candidate completes courses and seminars in research methods, statistics, econometrics behavioural research, and data analysis. As well, it is important for students to have a solid foundation in management theory. Therefore, students are required to take a course in Management Foundations. The Course Structure (all disciplines) for the first and second year of the program has both required and field specific courses. The courses have been designed so students from all disciplines have a common first term in their first year.

Students are admitted to the program with a course of study designed, when appropriate, to supplement previous education, experience and training. The normal requirement for admission to the doctoral program in management is a Masters Degree (or equivalent) in business or a related field with a minimum B+ average. All applicants submit scores obtained on the Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT). GMAT test scores (min. 85% percentile) are standard. When appropriate, equivalent Graduate Record Examinations (GRE) scores will be accepted
International Requirements:
Applicants whose language of instruction during the undergraduate degree was other than English must furnish evidence of proficiency in English prior to admission. Normally, this evidence is an acceptable score on one of the following: TOEFL, IELTS, CAEL Assessment.
