Program Overview

Program Description:
The Master of Environmental Management is an interdisciplinary coursework program that follows a unique and holistic model. The program is built upon a solid foundation of core courses that provide students with a critical appreciation of environmental management tools, frameworks and issues, and fundamental knowledge courses that teach environmental literacy in key disciplinary areas such as law, economics and social science. The core and fundamental knowledge courses also provide first-hand experience of the interdisciplinary nature of environmental management via collaborative decision-making exercises with fellow students from a range of disciplinary backgrounds. Beyond this foundation, students can custom-design a program to suit their specific needs (within any set pre-requisite constraints), as this program offers a broad range of electives from diverse fields. Who is the program meant for: People from a wide range of disciplinary backgrounds and career stages will find these programs useful. The aim is to provide flexible and practical programs, which will develop, build or enhance your career. You may already be working in the environmental field in either policy/social sciences or the technical/science areas, and wish to upgrade or broaden your skills. You could be looking for a career change into the environmental management area or be a recent graduate wanting to establish a career in environmental management. Or you might simply want to better understand environmental management. Career Opportunities: Our graduates find employment in the environment divisions of large corporations, dedicated environmental consultancies, auditing firms and carbon offset providers; in government agencies such as the Commonwealth Department of Climate Change, State Departments of Environment, and Natural Resource Management; in Local Government as environment managers and officers; in large environmental NGOs as analysts and campaigners; and in international organizations such as UNESCO, UNEP and UNDP. In addition MEM training allows professionals such as journalists, lawyers and engineers to shift their areas of specialization to focus on the environment.
