Program Description:
Marriage and Family Therapists (MFTs) are uniquely trained to use psychotherapy and psych-education to help people improve their ability to relate to others. Clinically, an individual's symptoms are understood and treated in the context of these important relationships. Wile MFTs work in the same settings as other therapists, they are the best trained to help people make informed relationship decisions that promote emotional /psychological adjustment in themselves and others. Program curriculum meets licensing criteria in most states (including Wisconsin and Minnesota), prepares students for membership in the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy and adheres to the rigorous standards for training set by the Commission on Accreditation of Marriage and Family Therapy Education (COAMFTE). Having trained successful therapists for more than 30 years the program is recognized as one of the two longest continually accredited training programs in the history of the Marriage and Family Therapy profession. US News and World Report named marriage and family therapy as one of the top 50 careers in 2010.

Accreditation:
The Graduate School at UW-Stout is fully accredited by the North Central Association of Colleges and Secondary Schools (NCA) to offer programs at the master's and education specialist levels. Commission on Accreditation for Marriage and Family Therapy. Recognized as one of the two longest continually accredited training programs in the history of the Marriage and Family Therapy profession.
Requirements:
The Marriage and Family Therapy program only accepts full-time students. To be admitted with full status you must: Hold an appropriate bachelor's degree from an accredited college Have an overall grade point average of at least 2.75 Applicants are strongly advised to complete the admissions process prior to February 1, later applicants will be considered on a space available basis.
International Requirements:
English Competency: Minimum required scores on the following are required: an IELTS score of 6.5, or TOEFL: 70 (iBT) 523 (paper). TOEFL scores under 79 [iBT (composite)], 550 (paper-based) will be required to take at least one advanced level language course through UW-Stout’s ESL program. Students admitted to the program whose English language skills are subsequently judged to be less than sufficient may be requried to complete additional language preparation. Test scores should be sent directly to UW-Stout (school code #1740) Also required: Official copies of all post-secondary transcripts (translated into English), including proof of baccalaureate and/or highest earned degree; Undergraduae GPA of at least 3.0 (4.0 scale); Evidence of sufficient financial resources to complete a degree program; Non-refundable application fee payable to UW-Stout in U.S. funds.
