Program Overview

Program Description:

The University of West Georgia offers two graduate programs leading to the following degrees in Secondary Education: the M.Ed. in Secondary Education and the Ed.S. in Secondary Education. The M.Ed. in Secondary Education is offered in the following areas: English, Mathematics, Science, and Social Science. Each program provides advanced preparation in teaching the specific subject area. The programs are designed to meet the needs of those who already hold a Level-4 certificate. Normally, the student follows the same subject matter areas of concentration in which the Level-4 certificate was earned. The thirty-six (36) semester hour programs include courses in professional education, the content for the specialty, and approved electives. The Specialist in Education program provides for an in-depth knowledge of the teaching field and utilization of research methods. The Ed.S. in Secondary Education is offered with a concentration in English, Mathematics, Science, or Social Science. Each concentration provides for a minimum of twenty-seven (27) semester hours of graduate work distributed among courses in professional education, research, and the teaching field.
