Program Overview

Program Description:
The School of International Studies is accepting applications for scholarships in the PhD Program in International Studies for the 2013-2014 academic year. The deadline to send applications is 29 May 2013, 16:00 Italian time. The PhD Program, which is entirely in English, has a strong interdisciplinary connotation: it provides a solid common basis in the disciplines that lie at the core of international studies (mainly law, economics, sociology and politics) and includes further specific training in the main discipline characterizing the PhD thesis. Candidates are asked to include in the application a short summary (2500 words max.) of their proposed research and a motivation letter. The research activities for the doctoral thesis, respecting their autonomy and specific character, fit in the research activities of the Doctoral School, characterized by a multidisciplinary approach and focused on thematic areas identified by the Graduate School Committee. As for the group of students applying this year, particular attention will be placed to topics related to “Sovereignty, Democracy and Crisis”. These topics can be taken as reference for the research proposal. The thematic area will articulate in various research projects and teaching activities. It will be addressed from multiple disciplinary perspectives (sociology, politics, law, economics and history) and will be expressed through analysis of various issues (i.e. economic-financial crisis, European integration evolution, participative democracy, socio-economic development models). The School offers five full scholarships renewable for three years and does not charge tuition fees. Scholarships are awarded on the basis of merit and will be augmented by 50% for authorized research periods spent abroad. Application Deadline: 29 May 2013
