Program Description:
Course themes include international security, political economy, political development and democracy, global climate change, economic development, poverty and inequality, corruption, technology innovation, among others.

The University of Toronto offers 3 to 6 week summer courses in Argentina, Australia, Central Europe (Austria, Czech Republic, Hungary and Poland), China (Hong Kong and Shanghai), Ecuador, England, France, Germany, Italy, Peru, Southeastern Europe (Austria, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia and Serbia), Spain and the United Arab Emirates. Courses are for degree credit and students from other North American universities are welcome to participate. Prices vary by site and range from approximately $4200 to $9000 (this include tuition, accommodation, meals, textbooks, and field trips).

The program is hosted and co-taught by Fudan University. Founded in 1905, Fudan is one of the oldest and most prestigious universities in China and has over 45,000 students. In the 1950s it also became one of the first institutions in China to enrol students from around the world, and has since trained over 10,000 students from 100 different countries.The program is designed to provide students from both the University of Toronto and Fudan University with a unique, intensive look at critical international issues from Western and Chinese perspectives. Students will spend two weeks in Shanghai attending intensive classes and then one week in Beijing.
Setting Description:
Beijing is China’s second largest city, after Shanghai. It is a major transportation hub, with dozens of railways, roads and motorways passing through the city. Few cities in the world besides Beijing have served as the political and cultural centre of an area as immense as China for so long. Beijing is renowned for its opulent palaces, temples, and huge stone walls and gates. Its art treasures and universities have long made the city a centre of culture in China.
