Program Overview

Program Description:

The MA in International Political Communication offers a mix of academic and practical study that will enable students to gain theoretical insight and hands-on experience of political communication. The MA explores a range of issues related to the media and its relationship with political and public institutions within regional, national and international contexts. Students on the course will engage in debates about the public sphere and the mechanisms and processes of political communication as well as getting hands-on experience of the communication of politics and an insight into the workings of political journalism.

Who should take this course?

This course is intended for individuals who wish to go on to do MPhil or PhD research in Political Communications or for people who wish to move into a career in political or public communications. Former students of the course have gone on to do a range of things from studying for research degrees to working in political marketing, lobbying, public relations, journalism and political campaigning.

Course outline

The course is built around a number of complementary strands:

    Specific academic modules which introduce students to the structures and processes of international political communication as well as a range of relevant critical perspectives

    Subject specific research training

    Practical training in communicating with the media and writing for the media

    Specialist study in a range of areas allied with political communication and journalism studies

    The MA culminates in a dissertation project on a topic of individual choice

Accreditation:
All our applied postgraduate courses are accredited by the main professional bodies representing the media industries: the National Council for the Training of Journalists, the Broadcast Journalism Training Council & the Periodicals Training Council. We are pleased to offer the Sheffield Scholarship 2016 to all US students commencing a Taught Masters programme in September 2016. The scholarships are: • £2,000 if your tuition fees are between £14,500 and £16,500 • £2,500 for each student paying fees of £16,501 and upwards We also offer scholarships of 50% of the course fee which will be offered on the basis of academic merit.
