Program Overview

Program Description:

This distinctive programme examines the details of international “business to business” transactions between a UK based legal firm and its international partners. Both the academic study of the commercial law underpinning such contracts together with the practical legal skills required in international business transactions are covered in depth. In doing so, this programme allows students to evaluate how practice deals with some of the academic themes and issues covered in the programme.

From the outset, English law is used as the basis for the transaction, reflecting the real-life preference of legal entities engaged in international trade. The course covers common agreements and conditions used in commercial practice as well as issues such as exclusion clauses and analysis of key risks in high value transactions where bespoke rather than standard goods are supplied.

This School of Law is well known for its strength and proficiency in legal practice. Many of our staff are solicitors as well as being skilled University teachers and many have had years of experience in legal firms. These staff will be amongst those teaching on this programme.

This prgramme is not a qualifying law degree. It will, however, be of interest and value to law graduates wishing to specialise at Masters level in international commercial law. In including the study of international transactions in practice, alongside the academic study of commercial law, students gain a thorough understanding of commercial law in practice. In addition, through the development of their practical legal skills, students will be able to distinguish themselves in the workplace.
