Program Overview

Program Description:
The Pediatric Dentistry program involves university coursework in aboriginal and rural cultures and communities as well as an intensive research program in prevention and community dentistry. The entire third year of the program involves placement and research in rural and remote areas. This program will provide eligibility to take the examinations of the Royal College of Dentists of Canada (RCDC) and the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry (ABPD). This unique program provides an opportunity for dentists to pursue higher education and research in the field of Pediatric Dentistry with an emphasis on prevention and public health in underserved and disadvantaged communities (Aboriginal, rural, and urban poor). During the first two years, patient care will be provided in a modern 5-chair pediatric dentistry graduate clinic with state-of-the-art computerized diagnostic equipment. Graduate residents will also have the opportunity to treat pediatric dental patients in the hospital setting and in local community outreach clinics.

Requirements:
DMD/DDS degree or its equivalent, and at least one year of general practice or hospital residency. See the Department website for full admission requirements.
