Program Description:
The Department of Geology's graduate program involves 16 full-, part-time, or active emeritus faculty members, 16 adjunct faculty members, two research faculty members, and about 50 graduate students from all parts of the United States and several foreign countries. This allows a great deal of student-faculty interaction in teaching and research. . The department has been successful in placing its graduates in academia and industry. We have close ties with a number of university research units, including the Kansas Geological Survey, the Paleontological Institute, the Natural History Museum and Biodiversity Research Center, the Water Resources Center, the Energy Research Center, the Tertiary Oil Recovery Project, and the KU Center for Research, Inc. Some students and faculty members also work closely with the Water Resources Division of the U.S. Geological Survey, a branch of which is in Lawrence, Kansas.
