Program Description:

The Master of Science in Publishing is an academic degree program which focuses on the history, development, and current practice of publishing in America. Students will complete a 36 hour program which consists of 30 hours of coursework and 6 hours of internship. 21 hours of courses constitute the Core of the Publishing M.S. degree; 9 hours of coursework constitute the student’s Concentration.

Concentrations are offered in Communication, English, and History. The home department of the degree will be the English department; however, courses are required and/or offered in Marketing, Management, Communication, History, and Curriculum and Instruction, in order to adequately prepare students for employment in the publishing industry.

General Admission Requirements. Admission to Graduate Studies see graduate admission requirements. In addition to meeting university admissions requirements for a graduate degree, prospective publishing students must submit their official GMAT or GRE scores.

Program Admission. Admission to the Master of Science in Publishing program is based on an evaluation by the program's admission committee of the following information:

  • 1-2 page essay that states the applicant’s reasons for applying to the program and the applicant’s career goals.
  • Two letters of recommendation.
  • A writing sample


PUB 6305 Publishing Internship is required. This course must be taken for two semesters for a total of 6 hours. The internship will serve as a capstone experience for student, a practical application in a professional environment which will gather together and apply skills and concepts learned during coursework leading to the M.S. in Publishing degree.  Students are able to work with one of our 5 literary journals.
