Program Description:

The University of Glamorgan Business School has designed a ‘guided doctorate’ (PhD) for senior managers and professionals who wish to pursue active research in the field of Organisational Leadership and Change. The research program is designed to be completed by participants working in small supportive ‘learning sets’ which meet regularly, together with senior staff from the Business School, in order to plan, undertake and review the progress of individual research topics. The aim of the programme is to enable senior management professionals to gain a PhD through research into their practice of managing change in their own organisations. The program will be four years in duration with a series of meetings planned to take place in each year. Some of the meetings will be residential in nature and others will be at the Business School. Each ‘learning set’ of approximately four participants will have a senior and experienced member of Business School Staff allocated to it as a facilitator. The program will encourage a high degree of learner autonomy with guidance being provided through conferences, workshops, work in small groups or ‘learning sets’ and individual tutorials. The conferences, which will vary between two and five days, will be used to provide research methods training, to undertake developmental activities and to plan and review research projects. Each meeting of the learning sets will normally last one day.
