Program Description:
The MRes in Economics provides advanced level training for those who are pursuing a PhD in Economics at Essex or in any other top economics department around the world. The MRes in Economics focuses on three core areas of economics: Microeconomics, Macroeconomics and Econometrics. After successfully completing the MRes in Economics, students will have an in-depth and solid foundation in the main theoretical frameworks and methods used in the modern microeconomics, macroeconomics and econometrics. During the first term students will be required to enrol in four modules: Microeconomics (EC903), Macroeconomics (EC904), Econometric Methods (EC501) and Mathematical Methods (EC511). During the second term, students will continue their study on these core areas and be required to enrol in three follow-up modules: Advanced Microeconomics (EC992), Advanced Macroeconomics (EC994) and Advanced Econometrics (EC996). During the summer, the students will be required to produce a dissertation with the aim of identifying a potential topic for a PhD dissertation.
